I have found these books helpful to me, though not necessarily just about DBT

Skills Training Manual for Treating Boardline Personality Disorder, Marsha Linehan, 1993, Guilford Press

The NECESSITY.  If you plan on learning DBT you must purchase this book, it is the best resource.

Cognitive-Behavioral Treament of Borderline Personality Disorder, Marsha Lineham, 1993, Guildford Press

The text book on which the workbook is based.  Very complex but worth the time.

Reinventing Your Life, Jeffrey Young P.H.D. and Janet Klosko, PH.D., edity by Aaron Beck, M.D., 1994, The Penguin Group

This book summarizes life traps that I found very applicable to my situation.  I often refer back to for excercises and understanding.  This book was recommended to me by favorite therapist.

Going to Pieces without Failling Apart, Mark Epstein, M.D., 1999, Broadway Books.

Another book recommended by my favorite therapist.  This is defenitely not a book for everyone, but if you wish to learn more on mindfullness, this book is excellent.

The Angry Heart, Joseph Santoro, P.H.D., Ronald Cohen, P.H.D., 1997. Publishers Group West.

This was recommended by a DBT therapist. EXCELLENT resource though its interactivity isn't exactly DBT many of the excercises are compatable and it has helped me most on two subjects: Responsibility and the big Why (why am I a borderline).

I Hate you Please Don't Leave me,  Jacob Kreisman, Harold Strauss

A bare bones account of Borderline Personality Disorder is.  A great guide for families and friends.  I gave mine to my BF and it has made a big difference in our relationship.

BOOKS I DON'T RECOMMEND.  THIS IS ONLY MY PERSONAL OPINION.  MANY PEOPLE LIKE THESE BOOKS BUT I HAVE FOUND THEM HARMFUL TO MY RECOVERY AND I WILL EXPLAIN WHY

Walking on Eggshells

I found this book very hurtful.  It seems to place all the blame on borderlines for everything that goes wrong in this world and indicates that borderlines cannot love.  How can I try to lead a life worth living if I cannot love?

The Courage to Heal

I know, everyone loves this book.  To be honest, I read this book before I was ready.   I felt lost  and scared and confused.  I just don't believe that it is right for someone just beggining on DBT.

Please feel free to disagree and go to my message board and post your own opinion

You can find most of the books at the large chain bookstores or at amazon.com
